The movie "Whale Rider" is about a old man named Pucker, who is searching for a new leader. He was expecting to have a grandson, but instead he gets a granddaughter. Pai is Pucker's granddaughter. Pucker won't accept as their leader, but Pai wants to show her grandpa that she can also be a leader. Pucker trains a couple of boys to be the leader. She tries to fit in with the rest of the boys to show everybody that she is capable. Pucker gets mad and tells her to leave. She is brave and stays, she would do whatever to show Pucker that she can. The final test for the boys was to get Pucker's whale tooth necklace from the bottom of the ocean, none of them got the job done. The next day Pai gave a try and succeeded. She didn't want to tell Pucker because she knew that he wouldn't accept it. Pucker went to the ocean and saw whales on land, he blamed Pai. They tried to push them back to the water but they were too heavy. Pai got on top of a whale and somehow made it swim back in the water. Everybody saw how she rode the whale deeper and deeper until she drowned. Pai's grandmother gave Pucker the whale tooth. When they found Pai, she was still alive and Pucker finally accepted her as their new leader. Pai was not valued in her community because she was a girl. Pai proved that she was the chosen one by riding the whale and getting back the whale tooth. I think that Pai's grandmother supported more Pai than her husband because she didn't get much support. Pucker kicked out Pai of the house because she kept on training with the boys. Pai's uncle helped her by letting her stay at his house and training her.
